A NIC handle is a string (characters and letters) that maps to a database entry which contains details of a person (also known as a user). This is equivalent to the name of an "object" in APNIC terminology. Where appropriate, NIC Handles can also be used as "role contacts" by putting an organisational title (eg: "IT Manager") in the "Name" field in place of a person's name.
Most of the forms you will use when dealing with the AUNIC will ask for a NIC handle to be entered, or will create a NIC handle for the user once submitted. Therefore, by keeping your NIC handle details up-to-date, it is not necessary to enter all your details everytime you use an AUNIC web form, only your NIC handle. There are forms available which let you create and update a NIC handle.
Currently it is possible to edit most details of a NIC handle, but the NIC handle name itself and the name of the person (or role) cannot be changed. If
NOTE: the AUNIC registry database only contains AUNIC NIC handles, which have a '-AU' suffix. It is not possible to edit INTERNIC (or any other) NIC handles from this site.
A personal NIC handle consists of the person's initials followed by a number and the '-AU' suffix, eg a user John Brown could have a NIC handle
